When: Saturday, April 08 2006 02:00 PM
Where: Fowler Field
More Information: http://ctr.usf.edu/cab/
My Role: Bystander
Fourth year of Bullstock, which has always been quite interesting, especially if you like music. Live music. For some reason, most music sounds better live, even if it’s a band that you normally wouldn’t be listening to. It’s cultural, dammit.

Featuring Authority Zero, Mr. Majestic, Story of the Year, and Twista.

Be there, you’ve already paid for it.

Making illegal what’s already illegal: the illegal immigrant rant

On one hand, I understand this whole protesting thing. On the other, I understand the need to actually enforce our immigrant laws. Being an illegal immigrant is exactly what it sounds like: it’s illegal. These people obviously sneaked across the border into this country. What is there to debate about? There are people who actually take the time to enter this country legally, the people who take the time to fill out the paper work and to play the waiting game. These people say “screw the system” and hop the border, then they get all pissy when we want to do something to fix OUR country and to secure OUR country. I say OUR because these people aren’t born here or they don’t take the time to become a citizen after legally entering the country.

WE pay taxes, for the most part, and WE ARE the ones who have to pay for the illegal immigrants taxing OUR health system and OUR education system. These protesters are outraged because that they’re basically being classified as what they are under a stricter law, yet, they’re standing there waving the flags of other sovereign nations. I’m sorry, but if you want to be here, don’t insult the rest of us by showing your allegiance to another country. Either plan on living in this country for the long term and wave the American flag, or get out. And, just so you know, that doesn’t go for the people who are only here temporarily (ie. students, people out here for work, etc). Maybe this is un-liberal of me, but you know what? I don’t really fucking care. This is my country, I’m an American citizen, just like everyone else who is here legally and choosing to call American their permanent home.

This is a much larger problem than just “getting the Mexicans out of the country” (fuck you for playing the race card, you fucking martyrs), it shows the fact that we can’t keep our borders safe. Illegals don’t want a giant wall so their cousins and brothers and parents and daughters can jump over the fence. Well, guess what, it’s our country, you have no say on us wanting to make sure some jack ass can’t cross the border in the middle of the desert with a nuke strapped to his back.

The incredibly large amount of money that goes to pay for these illegal immigrants is staggering. There are jobs that are lost, granted, more shitty jobs than not, but a job is a job, and an American deserves it more than some border hopper. These illegal immigrants are crowding up our prisons because they can’t behave themselves. It’s mind boggling how much money is being spent on these people that could be spent on Americans who need. Our education system sucks, our health care system is only getting more and more expensive, adults and children go to bed hungry every night and our troops go to war without a proper amount of body armor.

And fuck this LA mayor who talks about people who played by the rules of the game. No they fucking didn’t. And don’t send these hispanic kids back to school. Chances are, their parents aren’t paying the taxes that pays for their education.

If this sounds harsh or mean or whatever, guess what? I don’t care one bit. Oh no, it’ll be illegal to be illegal! We’ll crack down on people doing illegal things like illegally hiring illegal immigrants! If you don’t like it, go back to your own country. Yes, this bill may not be the best thing, it might be harsh, it has it’s flaws, but something is needed.

EDIT: and let’s not forget that illegal workers can easily be taken advantage of, and that’s just not right.
