Got an offer for a promotion at work…

today and I’m debating whether or not I should take it.

Right now, I’m the Warehouse Receiver for the Longs Drug store I work at and I’m being offered a position as a key carrier (basically, the lowliest form of management there is).  I’d get a nice raise and more “responsibility” (I know what you people who know me are thinking: Jonathan?! RESPONSIBILITY?!?!?!) and it’d go nice on the ol’ resume.

I knew this was coming, I saw it coming before I even graduated.  The problem is that I’m looking to get a job in the environmental field, particularly something in the State Park sector, and I don’t want to feel like I’m bailing out on that goal.

So, I’m not quite sure what to do.  I think I’ll go ahead and accept the offer, reinforcing the notion that I’m planning on a career with the environment.  Part of me is hesitating (a big part) and I think I need to squash hesitation in my life down at times when I shouldn’t be hesitating and this would be a good time and place to start.

I’ll mull it over throughout the weekend and talk some more with my manager.  I just really don’t want to get stuck in retail.
